I decided to do my review post on a song, I don't know if you explained this in class on Friday (I wasn't here on Friday) or if I just wasn't paying attention when you said it but I have no idea what this review is supposed to be over so I’m just going to start with the name of the song. I decided to do take a back road by Rodney Atkins.
I chose the song because it sums up how I feel right now, trapped up in the city wanting nothing more than to hop in the truck and roll down a back road. The song talks about how the singer is trapped in a city he doesn’t want to be in and he just wants to get out and take a back road through the part of the country where he grew up. The event that spurred the singer to leave the city was rush hour six lane traffic and an old George Strait song that was playing on the radio. He wants to go and drive down a back road so he can clear his head of all of the troubles of city life. In the song Rodney Atkins says that he wants to get out of all of that six lane backed up traffic jam, the only traffic jam he wants to be behind is a man on a tractor. This song makes me want to just go and hop up in the old truck and just go driving down an old back road with some friends and close family members. If I had the choice I would go driving down every single back road that I possibly can as often as possible. There’s something calming about just driving through the country not a care in the world surrounded by people who will help you out whether you know them or not. Rodney wants to take the long way home because he would like to get out to where life is simpler and everyone genuinely cares about you. George Strait songs have something about them that will just takes you someplace where life is simpler, I guess thats why he’s the king of country music. In this song I think that Rodney Atkins has accomplished that.
